A Foodie’s Guide to
Slabtown

Portland has a well-deserved reputation as a foodie paradise. No matter what part of the city you visit, it’s guaranteed you’ll find tasty treats from all over the globe. Here in Slabtown, it’s no different. After a long day loading or unloading your storage unit at SPS, head to nearby NW 23rd and feed your soul.

One of the best reasons to dine out in Portland is the fresh local produce. Many of the best restaurants and food carts in the city take advantage of local produce from farms like Sauvie Island Growers and Our Table farms. Farmer and the Beast food cart, located within the Nob Hill Food Carts pod, also makes good use of Oregon-grown grains and seasonal meats and fish.

It wouldn’t be Portland without a stop at a local craft brewery. Nearby Hammer & Stitch Brewing Co brings clean, straightforward beers to the local scene alongside quality pub food. There’s something for everyone at Hammer & Stitch, from vegan sandwiches to classic clam strips and well-seasoned jojos. Hang out on their expanded patio and enjoy a cold beer after packing your storage unit – you deserve it.

As you venture block-by-block through Slabtown, you’ll feel like a true globetrotter. Try the Korean fried chicken at Chimaek Town, try the $7 wood-fired margherita pizza at Life of Pie during happy hour and warm up with homestyle Vietnamese food at Lela’s Bistro. Indulge your taste buds just minutes from SPS Portland.

Explore
Forest Park

Living in Portland makes it easy to answer when nature beckons. Minutes from SPS Portland you’ll find the famous Forest Park. Forest Park makes it simple to escape the city without leaving Portland. This massive urban wilderness features 70 miles of trails for runners, hikers and equestrians alike. Forest Park covers 8 miles of land in Northwest Portland and supports more than 112 bird and 62 mammal species. As a bonus, head over to Pittock Mansion for a taste of Portland history and one of the most beautiful views of the city with Mt. Hood in the background.

Keep
Portland Local

Portland is home to makers and artisans of all kinds. Head down NW 23rd in Slabtown and you’ll find a variety of retail shops and local services. Pinky PDX is one of our favorite local shops. The eclectic store features art and products from local artists and makers. Betsy and Iya features the stunning metalwork, hand-pounded jewelry formed into cool geometric pieces of wearable art.

Here in the City of Roses, it’s easy to get around and explore locally run shops, outdoor recreation opportunities and indulge in creative cuisine thanks to bike-friendly roads and public transportation. Hop on the Portland Streetcar and travel from our Slabtown neighborhood into downtown. The Portland Streetcar also crosses the Willamette River, uniting both the east and west sides of the city. Catch a concert at the Crystal Ballroom or a Timbers game at Providence Park and return home via Portland Streetcar for the perfect Portland evening.
