What is Climate-Controlled Storage?
Climate-controlled storage units are maintained within a set temperature range to provide the ideal environment for your items. These units are typically inside of a building for the best protection from the elements. Depending on the storage facility and region, climate-controlled units may be heated or air-conditioned in order to achieve the ideal temperature and environment. We regulate these units within a 55 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit temperature range.
Cooled, or air-conditioned, storage units are found in regions with a higher heat index, like many of our Southern California storage facilities. Heated storage units and temperature-controlled buildings are more common in parts of the country with colder winter months. When We Recommend Climate-Controlled Storage Units
We most often recommend climate-controlled storage units to renters with sensitive items living in regions with extreme temperatures, either hot or cold. From heat and humidity to freezing temperatures, changes in the weather can result in moisture in your unit. This can result in warped, cracked and damaged items, as well as possible mold and mildew.
If you plan on storing the following items, we recommend a climate-controlled storage unit as the best line of defense in protecting your items from extreme heat or cold.
- Collectibles including antiques, artwork, stamp collections, baseball card collections, comic books, vinyl records, and red wine
- Electronics including TVs, computers, cameras, phones, stereos, speakers and tablets and other devices. These items can be sensitive to humidity and condensation.
- Wood, leather and upholstered furniture including tables, chairs, cabinets and entertainment centers. Prevent the degradation or yellowing of leather and moisture damage to upholstered fabric furniture.
- Media you want to preserve including vinyl records, cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs and VHS; each requires the ideal environment. This goes for photos, photo albums and negatives, as well.
- Musical Instruments including woodwinds and brasses, stringed instruments, and pianos.
