Looking at this summer as an opportunity to explore your local community changes the tone of a year that hasn’t turned out the way anyone expected. Many locally owned and operated businesses are really hurting due to stay-at-home orders and closures. Now, rather than flying to vacation, you can enjoy the attractions that typically bring out-of-town visitors to Escondido.

See History at San Pasqual Battlefield State Park

East of Escondido you’ll find San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park. The park honors the soldiers who fought in the U.S. and Californio forces on December 6, 1846, the bloodiest and most controversial battle of the Mexican-American War. The historical park is meant to be not a monument to war, but rather a reminder of the human ideals, actions and passion that can sometimes drive nations to deadly conflict. Currently, the park is closed to vehicle access, but remains open to local residents if you walk or bike into the park. Remember to bring soap/hand sanitizer, maintain 6-ft physical distance and pack out all trash.

Bike the Escondido Creek Trail

Once you reach Daley Ranch, celebrate the end of your ride with a splash in Dixon Lake. Riding your bike is a healthy activity that you can do alone or with friends at a safe distance.
