Public art enriches our communities, bringing life to our environment and beauty directly to the people without the confinement of museums and galleries. At Security Public Storage, we have embraced the arts by adding beautiful, large-scale murals and window screens at nearly 20% of our locations on the West Coast and the Washington D.C. metro area. We recently unveiled our latest mural at SPS Oceanside at an event hosted by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce.

Oceanside Public Mural at SPS

Oceanside mural by Jerry Ragg Over several weeks this summer, local mural artist Jerry Ragg, owner of Mural Decor, worked on the latest public art installation at SPS Oceanside. SPS proudly donates this mural as a gift to the citizens of Oceanside as a celebration of the culture and splendor of the community. The mural features a nod to surf culture with a vintage VW van and surfers in the distance. You may also notice San Diego Chargers Hall of Famer Junior Seau (and his retired number 55) running into the sunset in the top left corner of the mural.

Jerry painted his first mural at age 8 and founded Mural Decor in 1986. He has lived in San Diego County since 2008 and is a 25-year resident of Southern California. His clients range from private collectors to small businesses and Fortune 500 companies. In addition to his mural painting business, Jerry also paints original fine art paintings inspired by nature and the old masters.

SPS and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce celebrated the unveiling of the mural on Tuesday, August 18 at 10:30 am with refreshments served and appearances by city officials including the mayor of Oceanside and local press. The unveiling proved to be a great success and we are happy to share this beautiful depiction of Oceanside with the community.

The mural is open to the public at our storage facility located at 1501 S Coast Highway, just off the I-5 Oceanside Blvd exit. We encourage you to see this stunning mural for yourself!

Additional Murals at SPS Locations

Bethesda window screen Oceanside joins the roster of locations with custom-designed, large-scale works of art at SPS facilities. Additionally, Baltimore, Salinas, Chula Vista and San Pablo have custom murals and Bethesda and Huntington Beach have custom-designed window screens. We have another mural in progress at our San Francisco location with additional locations in the works. It is with great pleasure we share these large, beautiful works of public art as a gift to our communities.

Each of the murals and window screens varies in style and approach with the intention of celebrating and investing in that specific local community.

SPS Celebrates Local Communities Through Public Art

At SPS, we love adding to the community through beautiful public art installations on the walls and windows of our self-storage facilities. We work with local artists, connecting with citizens in our neighborhoods for increased livability and quality of life. Art allows us to connect on a deeper level, increase morale and share the cultural heritage of our communities. We invite you to learn more about SPS and the cities we call home.
