When we opened SPS, we knew the importance of this historical building and went out of our way to preserve the integrity of the original structure, while updating it for modern self-storage renters. Monarch Rubber Company, founded in 1928 and dissolved in 2007, manufactured and developed high-quality cellular rubber and plastic foam used in automotive, footwear, sporting goods, and other industrial applications.
A Neighborhood Landmark
In 2013, SPS wanted to celebrate our dedication to the local community and visualize this bond with a large-scale mural. The iconic mural that adorns the side of our historic building has become a neighborhood landmark. The bold and dramatic mural drives conversation within the community and when customers come in to reserve their storage units. We wanted to convey our support for the local community — the hands in the mural represent SPS, and the boxes depict the community. It was our vision that the hands lifting up the boxes speak to our dedication to elevating the local community.
This beautiful neighborhood landmark was designed and painted by the artists at Mural Masters in 2013.
Community Outreach and Involvement
SPS proudly participates in community outreach and involvement throughout Baltimore. We love being a part of the community! You can often find our team members volunteering their time at local senior centers to host bingo and ice cream socials.
We also work with large employers in the area to offer a negotiated discount as a part of an employee benefits package. This becomes especially helpful for companies with new employees relocating to Baltimore. We take great care of individuals who are in transition for a variety of reasons by providing a safe, clean, secure space for their belongings. Many of these possessions may be family heirlooms or, in certain circumstances, the only possessions a person has. SPS also partners with several apartment complexes to provide additional storage services to allow their residents more flexibility in organizing their homes. We love meeting residents in their communities and have participated in events like the popular “Coffee and Pie Night” at 1212 East Apartments.
We actively participate in the local Chamber of Commerce by attending breakfast meetings, dinner meetings and ribbon-cutting ceremonies to promote small businesses in our community.
