Map of NW Portland

Northwest Portland is home to the newest addition to the Security Public Storage family. We value our partnerships with the communities we serve and invite you to get to know our Slabtown neighborhood.

Portland, home to about 620,000 residents, is a dynamic and exciting city that offers something for everyone. The city’s 95 neighborhoods are divided into 5 regions. Each region, and the neighborhood districts within them, have unique personalities, histories, and architecture. So let’s explore one of them.

Northwest Portland is situated between the Willamette River on the east, Forest Park on the west and Burnside Road on the south. The region is home to some of the city’s most historic neighborhoods, including the Nob Hill District, Pearl District, Old Chinatown, and the Northwest District. Early in Portland’s history, industrial and milling warehouses dominated the Pearl District while the Alphabet District developed into a residential area characterized by craftsman-style and Victorian homes.

In 1865 when the residential area was first platted, the streets were named in alphabetic order (Couch, Davis, Everett, Flanders, etc.) and in 2000 the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Several characters in Portland native Matt Groening’s television show The Simpsons have names based on the alphabetically named streets in the Northwest District, e.g. Reverend Lovejoy, Mayor Quimby, Ned Flanders, and the bully Kearney.

Our onsite managers, Lindsey and Carlos, share their favorite local spots to enjoy food, drinks, and shopping.

Lindsey – As a Portland Native, I believe we have the best food, shopping and coffee in the city. With just minutes away from work, we are very fortunate to have so many local coffee shops close by. One of my favorite go-to spots is Groundworks Coffee. What I love about this place is that they roast and brew all their own coffee in house, so everything is always fresh. Our location is prime, and we are spoiled to have great shopping options such as Sloan Boutique, which offers beautiful clothing styles at a reasonable price! And fun happy hour restaurants like Por Que No, which serves the best tacos and margaritas in town.

Carlos Von Ebert Brewing is conveniently located in the downtown Pearl District. They offer a variety of beers that are brewed in house and that are conveniently switched out every couple weeks or so, so that you never get tired of their options. Their food is also amazing and my must try plate is their steak fries with truffle aioli!

Not only is Angels Taqueria super close to our facility at only 800ft away, but they also serve some authentic Mexican food! They are reasonably priced and their portions are big, plus their green salsa is to die for!

Whenever I am in the mood for a healthier alternative, I go to New Seasons Market and order a Wok Bowl! They are all organic and made to order. They offer a variety of customizations that fit any mood on any given day. Not to mention they are super filling and delicious!!
